It's a Special Needs Foster Season

Do you remember Pebbles, the puppy that arrived from Puerto Rico with bad hind legs?  You can refresh your memory, or learn about her, here and here.  She was super, duper special needs and she's been uh-dop-ted by a pretty special mama that loves her to the moon.

Our next foster puppies were three American Bulldog puppies that were all deaf.  They didn't know they were deaf, which was fortunate for them since their barks were ear piercing.
This is them on their ride from the AWS, all snuggled together.  Unfortunately, we learned quite early...they can't travel in a crate without pooping every.single.time!  Stinky!

They didn't have names, so my mama and papa and Auntie Wendy got to name them.  Papa named Blanca, she was the biggest of them all and the most bulldoggie looking.
Auntie Wendy named Ivory.  She was the middle one...not too big and not too small, just about perfect.  She had a little bit of black along the edge of her left ear.
"What do you mean it's all my fault?"
Ivory is the reason the tall fence had to be put up so quickly; she was the first one to climb over the short one.

Mama named the pipsqueak Pearl.  She was just darn cute.
Here I am saying "hi" to Blanca.
They stayed with us for a couple of weeks because they got sick and couldn't get spayed when they were scheduled. They had lots (and lots) of nasty diarrhea, so had to visit the vet at the AWS.  That visit took about two hours because they were concerned about Parvo, a very serious disease and often fatal to puppies.  Thankfully, that wasn't the problem.  They came home with medicine and a very messy crate. ;o( *sigh*

Once they started feeling better, every one got a bath.
Ivory
Blanca
Pearl
They learned very quickly when it was time to eat.
They all got to run and play outside of their kennel several times a day but sadly, it was really super cold for most of the time they were with us, so they didn't get outside except for a few minutes during the whole two weeks.
Blanca and Pearl playing tug
My mama called them the three little piggies and she loved taking pictures of them all snuggled up together in a pig pile.
Ivory, Blanca, Pearl
They went back to the shelter yesterday and all got a bath before anyone interested in uh-dop-ting them could see them because they were covered in poop!  All three had new homes by the end of today.  YAY ;o)

Happy life little piggies!

It's Fine Being Nine!

Happy Birthday to ME!  Happy super, duper, spectacular Birthday to ME!  I admit, I love a good birthday and today it's MINE!  WooHoo!  Let's celebrate.
You're probably wondering how I celebrated being nine.  Well...to be honest, the day was kind of boring.  My mama insisted on the "annual birthday photo shoot".  Ugh!  I really don't like having my picture taken over and over and over again BUT...there was a stick of cheese involved, so I relented.

I will point out, it's the same silly hat as last year and I think the year before.  My mama is a serious slacker when it comes to buying me something new to wear for these silly pictures.  And don't be fooled by the bandana, it's the same as last year, only the other side because it's reversible.
Please note...I expertly covered my private parts
I'll smile for cheese!
My somber expression
Smiling because I'm NAKED! (not counting my party hat)
Aren't we about done here?
I'm bored...
What is that on my eye?  I know I have a small beauty mole, but seriously...that's not a small mole!  Looks more like I'm wearing a marble on my eye.  Must be the light ;o)
Looking good in my birthday suit!
Finally, once my mama had enough pictures to satisfy her and all the cheese was gone, I got some gifts.  Yes, dogs get gifts.
I got a new leash that matches my collar.  My old leash is about as old as me and was getting pretty worn, so everyone (well, not me but everyone else) decided a new one was in order.  I also got a really cool, funny-in-my-mouth squeaking duck.
Finally...ICE CREAM.  My mama and papa took a trip to the ice cream store, without me!  I suspect they treated themselves to celebrating my birthday with ice cream of their own before bringing mine home.
I can be very attentive when I want to be.
I'm feeling very good for nine.  My mama is kind of sad though because, although I've always had white hairs under my chin, she is seeing more of them on my face.  A couple here, a couple there.  Eventually I'll look my age.

Pebbles, the Second Time Around

Remember Pebbles, our special, special needs girl from Puerto Rico?
Well...she's back!  Unfortunately, she was knawing on her janky legs and had done a pretty good job of chewing them up.  It was decided it would be in her best interest to amputate her back legs just above the knees.  She came to us to heal from her sir-jury.
Coming "home" again
She had lots of stitches on her nubs and no one wanted her getting to them, so she was stuck in the cone of shame.

Not to worry, my mama and papa are very good at fostering and they made sure she got lots of time out of the cone.  She got lots of time outside in her special pen, with and without the cone.
Such a happy girl
She's still not very big but it was surprising how much she had grown when we tried to put her into her old wheels!  Sadly, although we had new wheels and a harness, they didn't go together so she didn't get as much exercise as she should have.  But she still got lots of fresh air.
You can kind of get a look at her stub.  They will look lots better once they are all healed and her hair grows back.

She stayed for almost two weeks but had to go back to the AWS because my people were going to "fun at camp".

My mama would spend time with her in the evening before settling her into bed.  She loved chasing the ball and chewing on toys and she didn't let her dis-uh-bill-it-ee slow her down...she was extremely fast.
Is this not the cutest face...eva!?

My mama actually shed a tear when it was time to say good-bye.  She was super cute and very sweet and we wish her a super, special life.
Until next time...

Pebbles...A Special Girl

My new foster sister, Pebbles, is a very special girl!  As you can see, she came with her very own cart AND she came all the way from Puerto Rico!
From the woman that was caring for her in Puerto Rico, it was learned that her mother was found as a pregnant stray and Pebbles was born with janky back legs...they don't bend ;o(  Don't feel too bad for her, she can scoot around faster than you can imagine and she doesn't know her legs don't work quite right.

She came from PR all by herself,  okay...technically, she couldn't really come ALL ALONE, but she was the only puppy on a rescue flight and the owner of the rescue brought her all the way to Maine.  I'm sorry my mama can't remember the name of the people that fly doggies, like Pebbles, to the US, but they are special people!

When doggies come to Maine from out of state, there is a five day kwor-an-teen period before they can be available for uh-dop-shun.  The Animal Welfare Society in W. Kennebunk, Maine asked if she could stay at our house for her kwor-an-teen period and we said...of course she can!"

I liked her but my mama and papa were afraid I might accidentally hurt her by playing too rough, so they kept us apart.  Plus, she barked at me and that hurt my feelings ;o(

She got to go outside without her cart on the nice days when everyone was outside to keep an eye on her.  We used an x-pen set up on the soft grass and covered it with a sheet so she could scoot around without getting all dirty.  She had a sore on her foot when she arrived at the AWS and it was all wrapped up in a bright pink bandage, so having a bath was not an option.  Lucky girl...I hate having a bath!

She worked hard when she walked in her cart, especially on the uneven grass, but she zoomed along on the driveway.
How can you not love that face?
She liked to chase the ball.
You can kind of see her pink bandage...
You can't tell from this picture, but her tail never stopped wagging.
My mama took a video but she can't figure out how to get it onto the blog.  She is such a doof when it comes to technology!

She was pretty easy to have around and we were sad to see her go...we're always sad to see our foster puppies go, but not sad enough to keep any ;o)  (my papa would but my mama says NO!)

Have a sweet life Pebbles, you are a very special, special needs girl.

A Better Day

I'm feeling a little more like myself this morning!  I had a good breakfast, did my business in the yard and even felt like sitting on the deck overlooking my domain!

Under the Weather

I'm not feeling myself tonight.  I took a trip to the Dr. Vet Lady and had some work done on my overgrowing gums.  They gave me some good drugs and I'm sleeping it off on my bedonabed.  I did get up long enough to have a little dinner, take my meds and go to the bathroom.

Hopefully I'll feel more like myself tomorrow.
You might not have noticed but I always get my nails trimmed when I'm under the sleeping medication, so now they are nice and short.  I don't care much for the paw-d-cures when I'm wide awake.

A special thanks to my Auntie Wendy for visiting me, sorry I didn't get up to say "hi".
